Religion as recounted by the media

On New Year’s Eve 2010, 21 Egyptian Copts were killed by a carbomb during a religious function. These outrages received wide coverage in the Middle Eastern and Western media. But in face of such and other similar events, how can journalists go beyond their religious convictions and the interests of those for whom they work?
