Italy: celebrating 150 years of what?

The three key anniversaries of the unification of Italy are worth reflecting on. In 1911 Italy was a largely poor, agricultural nation about to launch itself on a foolhardy imperial adventure, in 1961 the beginnings of the great economic boom muffled any great surge of patriotism and now, in 2011, amid an economic crisis and strong centrifugal forces, which of the many Italies is celebrating? And what is there to celebrate?
