In the past few years the relevance of “Digital Leaks” (OffshoreLeaks, Cables, Snowden, etc) has been an important enabling factor for investigative journalism development. The famous “big international case” are just the “tip of the iceberg” with many national and local investigative journalists leveraging Anonymous Whistleblowing Solicitation to get in contact with unknown sources, providing valuable tips and leaks for their investigation.

We will discuss the experience of several journalism initiatives that have set up their own “leak sites”, what the results have been and what has been learned from real-life experience, especially in protecting the identity of the whistleblowers and how to deal with them. What challenges can we expect in the next few years? Will leaks further empower journalism as a watchdog of democracy?
