With traditional local news organizations in decline, more and more journalists are looking to startups as a way to fill gaps in the local news ecosystem. However, launching a local news site from scratch is complicated, expensive and time-consuming. There is very little support for these "solopreneurs," particularly for women or founders of color. This panel will explore this growth in local news founders at the community level, and what organizations like Indiegraf and The Tiny News Collective are doing to help small sites launch, scale and reach sustainability.
