Farian Sabahi

Insubria University

Farian Sabahi is a senior researcher in Contemporary History at the University of Insubria.

Specializing in Iran and Yemen, she is a member of Sissco (Italian Society for the Study of Contemporary History), Sis (Italian Society of Women Historians), and Aiso (Italian Association for Oral History). She graduated in Economics from Bocconi University and in Oriental History in Bologna. She earned her Ph.D. in History from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London with a thesis on the "Army of Knowledge" during the reign of Muhammad Reza Pahlavi (1963-79).

Her research focuses on buy-back petroleum contracts and free trade zones in the Persian Gulf. She is involved in the study of the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, using a multidisciplinary methodology with particular attention to minorities and gender issues.

As a professional journalist, she collaborates with Il Corriere della Sera, Il Manifesto, and the radio program 'WikiRadio' on Rai RadioTre.

Her recent publications include "History of Iran 1890-2020" (Il Saggiatore, 2020), "History of Yemen" (Institute for the East C.A. Nallino, 2021), and "Us Women of Tehran" (Jouvence, 2022).
