Matthew Eltringham

BBC College of Journalism

Matthew Eltringham is head of the website and events of the BBC College of Journalism.

In 2005, he became the founding editor of the UGC Hub – a team of BBC journalists who pioneered the incorporation of user generated content by mainstream media in their journalism. The Hub was one of the first teams within BBC News that operated in a multi-platform way – although based on the News website, they worked closely with TV, radio and the web. The team has covered every single major national and international story since its inception at the time of the July 2005 London bomb attacks, developing industry-leading expertise in the use of UGC. In the summer of 2007 the team won an RTS award for its innovative work in covering the floods that hit the UK. He led the UGC Hub until May 2011.

In June 2010 he devised and led a substantial College of Journalism programme to drive the use of social media by BBC journalists as a vital tool in their daily work. His BBC career has spanned Radio Five Live, The World Tonight, Westminster politics, Breakfast with Frost and the BBC News website.
