Oleg Kashin is a well  known Russian journalist and writer. He started his carreer in his native city of Kaliningrad working for the local edition of Komsomolskaya Pravda. He moved to Moscow in 2003. At different periods of time he was staff writer or editor at leading Russian print media, inclusing Kommersant, Izvestia, Expert, Russian Magazine, Medved. Many of his political articles sparked widespread discussion among Russian public opinion and brought about angry reaction from the authorities. In November 2010 he was assaulted by unknown attackers near his home in Moscow. He was hospitalized with several fractures. In 2012 he was elected to the Coordinating Council of the Russian Opposition and as a consequence lost his job at Kommersant daily. In 2013 he moved to Geneva, Switzerland where his wife works. He continues to write for Russian online and print titles such as Colta and Slon. He has also founded his own online magazine kashin.guru.
