William Ward

journalist and author

Pundit, writer and broadcaster on (almost) all things Italian for the English-language media and ditto on (almost) all things Anglospheric for the Italian media for the last 30 years, William Ward has shuttled between Rome and London since 1979. His encyclopaedic analysis of Italian society, politics & culture Getting It Right in Italy (Bloomsbury, London, 1990, 2nd ed. 1993) is still found on library shelves around the world; one of the episodes of his four-part series for BBC Radio Four La Mia Italia (1995) was set in Umbria; his work has been published in over forty different newspapers and magazine, in fifteen different countries. He was the resident commentator on BBC News 24 for the death of John Paul I and the election of Benedict XVI, and was the on-site pundit for the marriage of Charles & Camilla for LA7 in 2005, and performed the same role for the wedding of William & Kate for Sky News Italy in 2011. A familiar voice over the last decade or so to listeners of RAI Radio 3 Mondo, he has been the UK correspondent for Il Foglio since its first edition in 1995, and for the Italian news magazine Panorama since 1996. He is Italian correspondent for The Arts Desk, the world's largest purely online arts review and cultural commentary site, since its inception in 2009.
