Can the confidential journalistic source still be protected in this overcontrolled and overconnected era? Through an Italian project named GlobaLeaks, sponsored by the Radio Free Asia Foundation, we have produced a system of confidential communications for whistleblowers, useful mainly in the media world, transparency of public administration and civic activism. The status of the project in its second year of life and the real-use cases by investigative journalists will be explained. The aim that we set at the beginning of the project was to create a technological product which would protect those who break the wall of silence, who are without a legal system that allows them to deal with the repercussions. Anonymity is guaranteed by Tor and our product is a free software developed by security experts dedicated to the protection of whistleblowers.
