Lee Rigby was murdered in broad daylight in front of dozens of witnesses on a London street on 22 May 2013. The immediate aftermath of the murder, including unprecedented video footage (before any emergency services arrived on the scene) of one of the alleged murderers stating the reasons for his actions while still clutching the bloodied meat cleaver allegedly used in the killing, was relayed across the planet by both social media and mainstream media.
