The Chinese regime states that the right to information, freedom of expression, and even the definition of journalism itself are all “Western” concepts incompatible with the uniqueness of Chinese culture. This propaganda narrative is then used to justify rights abuse, crackdown on journalists and the disappearance of independent voices.
Circle 19 for the Right to Information in China, a group composed of seasoned Chinese journalists and China media experts, demonstrates that not only the right to information is an integral part of Chinese legacy, it is also essential for the country's future development.
During this afternoon session, organised with the support of Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Circle 19 spokespersons Kris Cheng and Chang Ping will present this much-needed initiative to inform journalists about the current situation in China.
This side event is open to all but requires registration. A buffet and refreshments will be provided during the event.
Venue: Umbrò, Via Sant'Ercolano 4, Perugia.
