A growing number of tv talk shows in Italy and abroad are exploring the opportunity of making web conversation a strength of their format. To what extent can this be considered true "participation," and how much of this conversation can be really valued in a debate which takes place in the studio? What are the issues and opportunities letting an unstructured stream of comments interact with the more or less rigid rules of the language of journalism and television journalism?

We will analyze some stories of interaction between tv news and social media recounting successes and lessons learned in Italy and abroad, with the help of experts, television writers, journalists and analysts of the digital transition.
