How we built it: the story of a for-profit, values-driven network with diversified revenues

In conversation with S. Mitra Kalita and Sara Lomax, the founders of URL Media, which boasts 16 community news outlets owned and run by Black and Brown journalists. In two years, URL Media has grown into a diversified media business, with revenues from advertising, a B2B recruitment arm, and philanthropy. The founders -- each also runs her own local media company, Epicenter is a Queens-based newsletter Kalita founded and Lomax runs WURD Radio serving Black Philadelphia -- will talk about how they did it, the challenges along the way, and what's next.
