Russian soldiers have committed over 120,000 war crimes in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion, according to Ukrainian authorities. In order to investigate these crimes, show their systematicity and achieve accountability, the Kyiv Independent has set up a completely new team: a War Crimes Investigations Unit that produces investigative documentaries. The team has already released three documentaries investigating Russia’s abduction of Ukrainian children, the killing of Ukrainian children by the Russian military, and the tortures of Ukrainian prisoners of war. A year after the launch, the experiment is seen as successful; the films proved to be the right medium to tackle this important and difficult topic.

At this presentation, the head of the unit Yevheniia Motorevska and the Kyiv Independent’s editor-in-chief Olga Rudenko will provide insights about the investigation of war crimes while they are being committed.

Organised in association with The Kyiv Independent.
