Caspar Llewellyn Smith is the Chief AI Officer at Guardian News & Media (GNM) where he is responsible for exploring the deployment of artificial intelligence across the company. He was previously Chief Product Officer, leading the teams responsible for the development of the Guardian’s website and award-winning apps as well as ground-breaking investigative tools used by the newsroom.

Prior to that he was a journalist, joining GNM in 2003 to launch a monthly music magazine for the Observer, before becoming the Guardian’s first head of culture. Subsequently he became the editor of theguardian.com and GNM’s other digital platforms and director of digital strategy. Since 2015, he has also been a member of the executive committee.
