Henry Makori

Henry Makori is the English Edition Editor of Pambazuka News, a weekly online magazine (also published in French and Portuguese) that provides cutting-edge reporting and analysis of popular struggles for freedom and justice in the pan-African world and the Global South.

Makori graduated with a degree in Anthropology from the University of Nairobi and a post-graduate diploma in Journalism from Kenya Institute of Mass Communications. He also holds a post-graduate diploma in African Studies from Tangaza University College. He is currently an MA candidate at the University of Nairobi’s Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies.

Makori worked as the Editor of the Catholic Information Service for Africa (CISA), a Nairobi-based news agency, and The Seed magazine, published by Consolata Missionaries in Kenya. He has written for numerous newspapers and Catholic magazines. Makori is a former columnist for The Southern Cross, a weekly publication of the Southern Africa Catholic Church, and the Africa Correspondent for Our Sunday Visitor, an independent Catholic weekly in the US.

Before joining Pambazuka News, Makori was the Editor of Expression Today, a magazine published in Nairobi by the Media Institute to defend freedom of expression, champion democracy and promote journalistic excellence in East Africa.

Makori is married to Pamela and they have two children, Emmanuel (aged 6) and Christa (aged 4).
