Sarah M. Kazadi

journalist and film maker

Sarah M. Kazadi is a journalist and filmmaker based in New York City. Her work has been featured on various platforms, including Newsweek, CBS Sports, the Amsterdam News and SLAM Magazine.

Sarah has spent the last few years reporting and producing in the United States, Haiti, Italy, Brazil and her homeland of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Her first short documentary ELIKYA showed how young women in the Congo use basketball as an escape and a ticket to a brighter future. It was an official selection for the International Black Film Festival of Nashville. Her latest short film The Renewal uses dance and poetry to tell a love story.

Sarah especially enjoys covering neighborhoods and demographics that are under-served and misrepresented, and telling sports stories that go beyond the final score. One of her recent sports features is on Antoine Turner, a college football player from New Orleans who found himself homeless. She still believes that journalism and film have the power to change the world.
