Mary O’Shea

Mary O’Shea is Head of Programmes at the Rory Peck Trust. In this role, she oversees all the Trust’s programmes and initiatives in support of freelance journalists. Mary is a programme specialist with over 14 years international experience. At UNDP’s Asia-Pacific Regional Centre, she provided policy support to country offices and their national partners across the region, and also coordinated a regional programme to support the institutional capacity development of National Human Rights Institutions in Asia-Pacific. Prior to joining the UN, she was Policy Desk Officer in the Human Rights & Democratisation Unit of the European Commission, covering Africa. Mary also has extensive experience of working on elections, having supported electoral processes and institutions in Afghanistan, Jordan, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, Togo, Thailand, Moldova, Sudan, Timor-Leste, Maldives and Ethiopia. She is co-author of the UN report on Integrated Electoral Assistance in Post-Conflict Settings and worked as an Advisor to the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan during the audit of the disputed Presidential Election of 2014.
