Will Church
Will Church is Director of Media Freedom Programmes at the Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF), the corporate foundation of Thomson Reuters, the global news and information services company. In his 12 years at the Foundation, Will has helped to develop a comprehensive media industry support programme working with journalists, newsrooms and the wider ecosystem, using TRF’s combined expertise in media and law. Will leads this work spanning three core pillars: Media for Democracy and Development – focusing on the role media plays holding power to account; Defending Media Freedom – supporting the industry to address the threats it faces, and; The Future of Journalism – helping media stakeholders approach the challenges and opportunities of a changing media landscape from a position of strength.
Previously, as Head of Programmes and a project manager, he has overseen and run a portfolio of projects and strategic relationships in more than 60 countries, particularly in the Global South and emerging economies, with partners ranging from multilateral organisations, foundations and private institutions, to government agencies, NGOs, media companies and journalists.
