News is becoming increasingly widely available and free. Revenue – whether digital or not - provides an uncertain foundation on which to invest in the future. Is it possible to change the scenario, to set up a journalistic enterprise with the contribution of (future) readers? The case of De Correspondent, the Dutch online journalism project that was started and survives thanks to a sensational crowd-funding campaign, will be considered among others.
