Digital safety is a hot issue at the moment. After Snowden some journalists have panicked about using Google etc. This presentation will focus on how journalists should deal with this issue. Is it really necessary to encrypt every mail? What is the threat? How to recognize it? And most important: how to teach digital safety? It is not enough to engage a security expert who teaches a wide range of tools (PGP, Tor, etc.) because after the “lesson” nobody is going to use the tools because they are just too complicated and other tools just too convenient. What is necessary is to raise awareness among journalists about how to set up a strategy to deal with security threats.
