This session will showcase some inspiring examples of journalism driving change and discuss what "making a difference" with journalism really means (clue - it's bottom up as well as top down). We'll discuss what journalists can learn from the well-established field of impact production in documentary film, how journalism can best serve the public interest and how to apply a strategic approach to driving change. In recent years showing and measuring the impact of non-profit journalism has become a major requirement of the organisations funding it - but this is SO much more than a tickbox exercise for funders. The discussion of impact raises big questions before we even get to measurement - questions that are fundamental to our industry's survival.
