Alberto Spampinato

Alberto Spampinato is a journalist and an expert on problems of freedom of information. He worked for the Ansa press agency from 1991 to 2011. From 2007 to 2012 he was part of the National Council of the National Federation of Italian Press (FNSI). In 2008 he founded Ossigeno per l’Informazione of which he is president. In 2009 he told the story of his murdered journalist brother in the book C’erano bei cani ma molto seri. Storia di mio fratello Giovanni ucciso perché scriveva troppo (Melampo). Since 2012 he has been a consultant to the Representative for Freedom of the Media of the OSCE, of the Agcom and of the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission for the violation of press freedom made with violence and abuses. In 2015, together with experts from Germany, Austria and other European countries, he participated in the foundation of the European Center for Press and Media Freedom based in Leipzig, established with the support of the European Commission.
