Dolkun Isa

Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation

Dolkun Isa is Vice President of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO) and Secretary General of the World Uyghur Congress, which fights for the rights of the minority Uyghur population in the Xinjiang province in China. After persecution by the Chinese government, in 1997 he escaped from China and was granted asylum in Germany, acquiring citizenship in 2006. In July 2017, he was arrested and prevented from attending a press conference at the Senate of the Italian Republic where his denunciation of the repression underway in Xinjiang province was due to take place, following an Interpol notice at the request of the Beijing government.
