Franco Cardini is one of the most distinguished of Italian historians. His work has focused in particular on the relationship between Europe and the Muslim world. He is Emeritus Professor at the Italian Institute of Human Sciences and has held a multiplicity of prestigious posts both in Italy and abroad, including Director of Research at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris and Fellow at the University of Harvard.

His more recent books include Gerusalemme. Una storia (2012), L'ipocrisia dell'Occidente. Il Califfo, il terrore e la storia (2015), Andare per le Gerusalemme d'Italia (2015) and "L'Islam è una minaccia". Falso! (Laterza, 2016).
