Jazmín Acuña is co-founder and editorial director of El Surtidor, a digital media outlet in Paraguay specializing in visual journalism.
Jazmín has championed coverage tailored for young audiences and guided her team to do in-depth reporting about the climate crisis, mis and dis-information and human rights abuses. Under her leadership the outlet has garnered several accolades, including the Gabo Award for innovation in 2018, the Ortega y Gasset Award for excellence in investigation as part of the regional team of Transnacionales de la Fe, led by El Clip; finalist for the International Press Institute Free Media Pioneer Award in 2023; and finalist for the Sigma Awards in 2024.
Jazmín was a Journalist Fellow from January to July 2025 at Oxford University's Reuters Institute, where she explored trust-building in news by applying an impact methodology beyond the algorithms and focused on grassroots outreach.
