Margherita Stancati is a Middle East correspondent for The Wall Street Journal. For the past three years she has covered mostly Saudi Arabia, sharing her time between Beirut and Riyadh. Her stories have focused on the tumultuous leadership of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has pushed to relax Saudi Arabia’s strict social rules while showing zero tolerance towards perceived dissent. Before covering Saudi Arabia, Margherita was The Wall Street Journal’s Afghanistan correspondent based in Kabul, a position she held for three years until 2015. Prior to that she was based in New Delhi for the paper. Margherita, who is Italian, started working for The Wall Street Journal in 2009 as a news assistant in Rome.
