Monika Mondal is an independent journalist from India. Her work focuses on agriculture, sustainability, and environmental injustice. Her stories have appeared in various national and international publications including Undark, The Washington Post, South China Morning Post, Mongabay, The Caravan and The Third Pole amongst others. Her work has been supported by Earth Journalism Network, and she was a 2021 South Asia Speaks fellow. Monika also covered COP26 in Glasgow, funded and supported by a Climate Tracker fellowship. Her story Investigation: Hidden water crisis behind India's sugar dominance, looking at the damage done by India’s sugar mills, won her the 2021 Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Environment award.
