Sándor Orbán is the director of the Budapest Center for Independent Journalism, a Hungarian media development NGO established by the New York-based Independent Journalism Foundation. Over more than two decades he has been managing media development projects aimed at supporting quality and ethical journalism. Previously, for six years he designed, coordinated, and supervised the training, research, and advocacy activities of the South East European Network for Professionalization of Media, an association of non-profit media development institutes from 12 countries.

His main fields of expertise include press freedom and pluralism, reporting diversity, journalism ethics, and media literacy. As guest lecturer, he teaches courses on political and organizational communication, media and cultural studies, and communication techniques at the Budapest Metropolitan University.
