Stephen Clark is the director for Relations with Citizens in the Directorate-General for Communication in the European Parliament, where he is responsible for visitors' facilities and programmes as well as managing public events and information campaigns for the Institution. He was formerly the head of web communication, where he was responsible, with his team, for online communication, notably launching the Parliament's presence on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Flickr, which has become a point of reference for political institutions the world over. He is a strong believer in the power of online communication and the importance of public institutions engaging with the public via online tools and platforms, going so far as to believe that online media are fundamentally reshaping the nature of representative democracy.
