Teun Gautier

founder De Cooperatie

In 2015, Teun Gautier was commissioned by the Adessium Foundation to do a study into the transition of the journalistic economy, resulting in a report with “52 ways to make money with journalism”. Inspired by the findings in the report, he started De Cooperatie, a cooperatively held (650 member) media company, based on the idea that the industry is moving from a centralized, institutional model towards a networked model: Distributed Journalism. Teun is member of the board of Veronica and V-Ventures, Chairman of the Publeaks Foundation and the board of Zamaneh Media.

Teun started his career with Reed Exhibition Companies in the US. He was transferred back to Europe to head up the Dutch and Belgian offices. At age 29 he was appointed to the board of Reed Elsevier in The Netherlands with responsibilities for the advertising markets and the Internet Business Unit. He left Reed Elsevier to be closely involved in several startups and initiating a publishing company. He later became the publisher and Managing Director of De Groene Amsterdammer, co-founded De Correspondent and Publeaks, as well as being part of several other initiatives in media.
