Virginia Alonso

Virginia Pérez Alonso is a journalist and coeditor-in-chief at Público, the only Spanish generalist media led by two women. She was previously deputy editor-in-chief at elmundo.es and, at an earlier stage, held the position of deputy director of 20Minutos Group. An expert in newsroom management and in strategic direction of digital media, she has achieved numerous successes in the planning of information processes and in the renewal of media. Since 2014 she has chaired the Platform for the Defense of Freedom of Information (PDLI), which in Spain leads the denunciation of violations of the rights of expression and information. In 2016 she became the first Spanish-speaking woman member of the executive board of  the International Press Institute. She is a frequent presence in conferences, colloquia, congresses and seminars on journalism, transformation of newsrooms, freedom of speech and information, and feminism. She has won several awards and recognitions during her career.
