Yoani Sanchez is the author of the blog Generación Y, in which she recounts her life in Cuba under the regime of Fidel Castro. In 2008 the Cuban government set up a software filter in order to prevent her blog being read within Cuba. Through a network of volunteers Generación Y came to be translated into 15 different languages. Yoani won the 2008 Ortega y Gasset Journalism Award (digital category) and was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2008 and her blog in the top 25 worldwide in 2009.
In Italy her book Cuba Libre (2009) was published by Rizzoli. The translation was by Gordiano Lupi, who is also the author of her biography In attesa della primavera (Anordest Edizioni) to be published in April 2013.
