Kathryn Geels currently works in media innovation at the Digital Catapult; an organisation established by the UK Government and designed to support innovation in the digital economy. Previously she was a Programme Manager at UK innovation foundation Nesta, where she led the Destination Local programme. The aim of the programme was to understand the potential for and stimulate a diverse and sustainable UK base of hyperlocal media services that create public value. The programme consisted of key areas of activity including grant funding of innovative projects and services, investing in policy and research development, and building partnerships with key stakeholders. On the back of the programme ending (formally in 2016) Kathryn is continuing her work in journalism innovation, on a freelance basis, currently on a programme supported by Google News Lab.
