Journalism organisations have run many experiments aimed at strengthening engagement, expertise, and revenue – holding debates, opening cultural venues, running cafes, and sponsoring hackathons. But there’s a growing phenomenon of people experimenting with actually doing journalism in live settings – storytelling in theatres, collaborative photo walks, mass interview events, or real-time factcheckathons, for example. It’s most widespread in the USA, but it’s taking off in other places too. Alternative and independent media have used live journalism events in incredibly creative ways around events like the Olympics, for example. What could live events of this kind bring to journalism at large? This panel brings together live journalism experiments and businesses from Denmark, France and the Netherlands, to share new lessons and ideas about journalism, trust and engagement.
