Elinor Shields is Head of Audience Engagement for BBC News in London. This new role leads a multidisciplinary team that aims to put real-time data at the heart of the newsroom, to increase online reach and engagement. She also works on editorial strategies to connect with more new audiences in the UK and internationally.

Before this, she was Development Editor for the World Service, where she managed digital growth and innovation for the 28 language services. Elinor returned to the BBC in 2013 after two years as a digital media consultant and four years in New York, as the first Managing Editor of The Huffington Post and then with Slate's business site The Big Money. Before that, she was a senior journalist on the world desk of the BBC News website and a reporter for TIME Europe.
