Matan Gilat

data editor Vocativ

Matan Gilat is a Data Editor at Vocativ, where he leads all data-heavy projects from collection to analysis and onwards. His specialties in this are structuring “messy” data from disparate sources, text analysis and meta-analysis - and his data team focuses primarily on using “hard” (e.g., statistical) skills for creating journalism. Gilat’s background is research oriented – and is relatively new to the Media world.

Prior to Vocativ, Matan led 3i-Mind’s (a Web Intelligence Company) Business Analysis Projects as a Business Intelligence expert. In this role, Matan and his team focused on locating and analyzing the effects of web-based threats on business outcomes of major fortune 500 companies. Before his time at 3i-Mind, Matan worked as a Senior Analyst at AdKit (a Global Information & Research Company), leading government policy-related research in a wide range of topics - from primary to higher education policy and the practical applications of biometric documentation. Prior to AdKit, Matan was the Aide and Lead Researcher to the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Israel where he lead research on the Israeli Labor Market (with a focus on lower-skilled workers).

Gilat has an MA in Economics (cum laude), with a thesis on the effects of low-skilled work migration on labor markets.
