Michaëla Cancela Kieffer is deputy news editor at Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Paris where she coordinates mid and long term editorial projects.

A former Teaching Fellow at the Google News Lab, Michaëla is passionate about technology changes and ethical issues in journalism, and believes in data journalism "for social good". A French-Spanish journalist, she started her career as a free-lance documentaries producer. At AFP she has worked as an international reporter and foreign correspondent for many years, in places such as Kabul, Bagdad, Bogota, Madrid or Washington DC. She loves all journalistic formats and was part of the team of founders of Diario Vivo, a Spanish version of California´s Pop Up Magazine. She also helped launch the Spanish chapter of Chicas Poderosas. A Former Fulbright scholar, she holds a Masters from Columbia Journalism School.
