Silvio Garattini

Silvio Garattini is founder and president of the Institute of Pharmacological Research Mario Negri, of which he was director until June 2018. He has been a member of various bodies, including the Committee of Biology and Medicine of the National Research Council, the National Health Council, the Commission of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for Research in Italy, the Scientific Committee of the Department for Anti-Drug Policies of the Council Presidency of the Ministers, the Development Advisory Board of the International Center for Biomedical Sciencese (China) and the Single Commission of the Pharmacy of the Ministry of Health. He is a member of Group 2003 (the group of Italian researchers highly cited in international scientific publications) and is the founder of the European Organization for Research on Treatment of Cancer. He is president of the Associazione Via di Natale and of the Angelo and Angela Valenti Foundation.

A winner of numerous awards and prizes, he has received, among others, the Legion of Honor of the French Republic for scientific merits, the Prize of the Italian Society of Chemistry Giulio Natta, the appointment as Grand Officer of the Italian Republic, the Hippocratic Prize for Scientific Communication and the Mens Sana in Corpore Sano Award.
