Vida Mehrannia is the wife of Ahmadreza Djalali and works at the University of Stockholm. Since 2016 when her husband was arrested, Vida has embarked on a sustained campaign to free her husband and bring him back to her and their two children in Sweden. She has met with ministers and government representatives in Sweden, Belgium, Italy and the European Parliament.

Ahmadreza Djalali, a Swedish-naturalized Iranian, was arrested on 26 April 2016 in Iran where he was invited to participate in a series of seminars on disaster medicine of which he is an expert. Ahmadreza Djalali has taught at universities in Belgium, Italy and Sweden. He contributed to the birth of CRIMEDIM - Center for Research and Training in Disaster Medicine, Humanitarian Aid, and Global Health in Novara, Italy.
