Ewen MacAskill

The Guardian

Ewen MacAskill is defence and intelligence correspondent of The Guardian.

Previously, he was the newspaper’s Washington DC bureau chief 2007-2013, diplomatic editor 1999-2006 and chief political correspondent 1996-99. He was political editor of The Scotsman from 1990-96.

He went with Laura Poitras and Glenn Greenwald to Hong Kong in May 2013 to meet Edward Snowden. This event was portrayed in Laura Poitras' film Citizenfour, which won an Oscar. The Guardian’s revelations of widespread secret surveillance by the National Security Agency won various awards, including the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for public service.
