Lisa Essex

Lisa Essex is an international journalism trainer, editor and writer who works extensively in the developing world. She is the author of several handbooks for the European Journalism Centre, on issues such as covering LGBTQI+ communities, development reporting and how NGOs work with media organisations. She edits a monthly newsletter, Interruptrr Africa, which amplifies the voices of African women journalists, and appears as a judge in journalism reality TV programmes such as Top Story (Kenya) and Journalistic Battles (Armenia).

Lisa worked for Reuters for 15 years, including as bureau chief in New York during the attacks on the World Trade Center, and as a political and financial journalist, radio and television presenter. Prior to that, she worked at Bloomberg Business news and Knight Ridder Financial.
