Ryan Schuessler is an independent journalist and writer who is interested in culture, religion, LGBTQ experience, geography, and identity. His reporting has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, and Public Radio International.

He is the editor of The St. Louis Anthology (Belt Publishing, 2019) as well as the forthcoming LGBTQ anthology of the Midwest/Appalachia/Great Plains. He's also an exhibition content developer at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, where he mostly works with indigenous North American and Pacific Islander communities to create community-curated exhibitions, but also explores the ways journalism can find a home in museums. He has lived in Chicago since 2015, but calls Missouri home.
