Pavel Kanygin
Pavel Kanygin is a journalist of the Moscow-based opposition newspaper Novaya Gazeta. He has a degree in journalism from Moscow University. He began his professional career at the Moscow daily Moskovskyi Komsomolets. He joined Novaya Gazyeta in 2004. He covered the Russian-Georgian and Russian-Moldovan conflicts, and published a series of reports on the Fukushima nuclear power station disaster. He has reported on the Ukrainian crisis since its beginning. He served as his newspaper’s special envoy at Kiev Maidan, in Crimea, in Odessa and in Donbas. In May 2014 his arrest by Donbas separatists alarmed Russian public opinion. In the end he was able to negotiate his own release.
