Tom Felle

Tom Felle is a senior lecturer in digital journalism at City University of London. Born in Co Galway, Ireland, he is co-founder of the Google DNI funded project dminr, which aims to use technology to tackle fake news and make public data more easily available to journalists for verification and investigative storytelling.

Previously, he was a career journalist and worked for a decade as a reporter covering politics and as a regional correspondent at the Independent in Dublin and Brussels; as Bureau Chief of the Leb News Agency in Beirut, Lebanon; and as Deputy Editor of the Irish Echo in Sydney, Australia.

He has contributed to a number of books on local newspapers; press regulation; digital journalism; and has co-edited two books on FOI and one book on data journalism. He was appointed by the Irish Government to sit on a national expert committee examining the Freedom of Information Act in Ireland in 2013. He continues to write on media issues, contributes to radio regularly and contributes to policy making in a number of countries as an expert on media regulatory issues.
